Update 3/31: This geriatric, female dog presented as a stray in very poor condition. Bloodwork revealed uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, along with mild to moderate anemia and a urinary tract infection. Radiographs identified arthritis along the spine and moderate arthritis in the left knee, which has not been fully responsive to pain management. The patient also has multiple mammary masses, and uterine masses were noted at the time of her spay; the malignancy status of these masses is currently unknown.

Prognosis: Poor. Diabetes mellitus is a lifelong condition requiring intensive treatment and monitoring and may be difficult to regulate, and her concurrent medical conditions further complicate management and negatively impact her quality of life. Due to this combination of uncontrolled diabetes, multiple masses, chronic pain, and overall poor prognosis, humane euthanasia is recommended and scheduled for Wednesday April 1. 2026.
