Please contact my foster parent by email for information about adopting me.

Fern is an absolutely gorgeous German Shepherd mix, around 6 years old, who is currently thriving in a loving foster home. It’s clear that someone in her past invested a lot of time and care into her training. Fern is respectful, well-mannered, and truly a house dog through and through.

Fern is fully house trained and crate trained, and she can be left alone in the home unsupervised. She’s quiet (even when neighborhood dogs are barking), doesn’t counter-surf, and politely asks for permission before getting on furniture. She’s calm, composed, and knows how to exist comfortably in a home.

While Fern has an “off switch,” she also loves to play! She enjoys fetch, but her favorite games are tug-of-war and keep-away. She’s not especially food- or treat-motivated, she’s more about connection, play, and affection. Fern is very loving, bonds closely with her people, and meets strangers easily.

On walks, Fern is steady and relaxed, even in the rain. She notices other dogs but isn’t overly interested in them and is happy to keep moving along. She may be able to live with another calm, stable dog with a slow and thoughtful introduction, but dog parks and doggie daycare are not recommended for her.

Fern does have some boundaries, and her future family should be comfortable reading and respecting dog body language. Because of this, she may not be a good fit for a home with small children.

Fern isn’t looking for a job as a guard dog. She’s far more suited to life as a beloved princess, soaking up affection, enjoying playtime, and relaxing in a calm, predictable home. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate, well-trained companion who will fit seamlessly into your household, Fern may be your perfect match!

Meet our shelter pet of the week: Fern! ?? Fern is a 5 year old shepherdy type gal. She sits for treats, but playing fetch and splashing around in the pool is where her heart is! On a recent field trip out of the shelter she did well in the car, at the park, and at Starbies for a pup cup. The best part - Fern’s adoption has been SPONSORED by a generous donor! Fern hasn’t made dog friends at the shelter just yet, but is open to meeting the right doggie sibling with slow intros. To learn more, find Fern posted to vcas.us/dogs. ID: A857902. Our adoption process is outlined at vcas.us/adopt ??
