Bhodi - A800894
This dog has been waiting for a home since April 2025 and is currently one of our highest priority pets due to the length of stay and the challenges he’s experiencing in the shelter environment.
He is a larger, mature, pittie-type dog who can feel overwhelmed in unfamiliar settings. When he knows you, he's been so cuddly and silly.
In the shelter, he may display behaviors like barking, lunging, or appearing tense when in his kennel. He has nipped when reached for too quickly (never injured anyone), but this can be hard when getting adopted means meeting strangers all the time. He's a little introvert competing in an extrovert's world where everyone want's the "go everywhere, do anything" dog. He's kept it together for so long and done so well dealing with his discomfort. We're so proud of him for all his good days, but we are saddened that all his best qualities are not always easy for visitors to see.
In his previous home, he showed similar tendencies - being a bit reserved with new people and wasn’t always interested in playing with other dogs. His family worked hard to help him feel more comfortable, giving him opportunities to explore the world at his own pace. They told us they rescued him from an abusive home as a young dog, and tried their hardest to give Bhodi the best life. He did guard food bowls in the home, and at times had charged up to strangers barking, but never injured anyone. Bhodi’s previous owner loved him deeply and kept him by their side through periods of housing and job instability for many years, but when opportunities came for them to get back on their feet, they were no longer able to provide for Bhodi. They rehomed him with family, but later found out that Bhodi had ended up at our shelter, and they made the incredibly difficult decision to leave him up for adoption in hopes of finding him a better life.
Recently, staff have noticed that shelter life may be becoming more difficult for him, which makes finding her the right home even more urgent. We are committed to helping him succeed and will support adopters with information and guidance to set everyone up for success.
Based on his history and behavior, he would do best with a patient adopter who understands how to give dogs time and space to blossom, and isn't looking for that happy-go-lucky, dog-friendly patio personality.
This boy has so much potential to thrive outside of the shelter. With the right person, we know he can truly relax and be the loyal companion we know he can be.
Here is all the wonderful side's of Bhodi we've gotten to know and love!
Bhodi is full of personality- he loves walks, swimming in the pool, getting pets, and snuggling up once he feels safe! Sadly, he arrived at the shelter after being found in a trailer that was being towed. Bhodi appreciates a little extra time to build trust and confidence to new people. Seeing him open up - leaning in for cuddles, showing off his playful side, and becoming the affectionate dog he truly is is so rewarding! He may be open to a doggie sibling with gradual introductions.
@vcanimalservices From shelter volunteer Heidi: “Meet Bhodi, my shelter child and favorite dog at VCAS, in Camarillo, CA. I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know him well over his 261 day stay. PS- I meant unhinged in a funny way, definitely not negative! He’s a 5-year-old Staffy / pittie / chihuahua / Pomeranian / boxer mix and truly one of the funniest dogs I’ve ever met . Bhodi is wary of strangers and has a difficult past. Because of this, he’ll do best with a patient adopter or foster who is willing to go slow and help him build trust. Once Bhodi feels safe, his personality comes right on through - he’s so loving, silly, and full of character. He’s done ok in playgroup although a bit awkward so he could be open to a doggie sibling with slow intros. He’s on our shelter’s priority list and urgently needs a rescue, adopter, or foster ASAP.
